Three Green Bay Area Public Schools were the recipients of orchard installations and expansions thanks to New Leaf Foods on May 2, 2025.
New Leaf Foods volunteers and GBAPS students and staff planted fruit trees to create orchards at Franklin Middle School and McAuliffe Elementary School. Six fruit trees were planted at both schools; two apple, two cherry and two pear. Volunteers and GBAPS students and staff helped Jackson Elementary School expand its current orchard by adding two new trees.
During the planting, students learned about the growing process and how to care for the orchard.
New Leaf Foods has provided community orchards at several GBAPS schools over the last several years. Orchards were previously installed at Chappell Elementary School, Edison Middle School, East High School, Jackson Elementary School, Green Bay Southwest High School, Lombardi Middle School and Red Smith School.
The goal of the orchards is to empower Green Bay area residents to grow food and be part of a sustainable urban agricultural system.
